About our Baby Cashmere:
Our luxurious baby cashmere comes from the delicate under fleece of baby goats, producing the softest and finest fibers you could imagine. Under a microscope, the fibers measure an astonishingly thin 13.5 microns in diameter. Our skilled herders extract the fibers in a gentle combing method which is done only once in the lifetime of the baby goat before it turns one year old. The combing is done in the month of June when the baby goat naturally sheds its fleece in preparation for the warmer climate - just like us humans who put away our winter coats during the summer. Each baby goat only produces 30 grams of fiber making it an incredibly precious commodity.
Why Inner Mongolia Western region?
The west end of Inner Mongolia, is an arid, semi-desert environment. The area is characterized by extreme temperatures and a lack of precipitation, making it a harsh environment for goats to survive in. However, the harsh conditions of the area also make it the ideal place for goats to produce the best cashmere.
The extreme temperatures ranging from scorching hot days to freezing cold nights as well as the high winds and lack of precipitation, all lead to the goats producing finer and softer cashmere. The harsh environment forces the goats to grow a thicker coat of under fleece to protect them from the elements and this thicker coat of contains thinner and softer fibers that produce the finest cashmere.
The unique climate of the west end area also helps to protect the goats from disease and pests. Since the environment is so dry and inhospitable, it is difficult for pests to survive in the area, meaning the goats are not exposed to the same diseases and parasites they would face in a wetter, more hospitable climate.
